We Want You and Your Healthcare Provider to Discuss and Choose a Safe A1C Goal
Do you, or someone you know, have diabetes? We want you to know about new treatment advice from diabetes experts. The A1C is the lab test that lets patients and their healthcare team know about their diabetes control over 2 to 3 months.
New studies show that not all patients should have an A1C goal of 7% or less. In fact, a goal of 7% or less is not safe for some patients. We now know that A1C goals should be matched to the patient’s conditions, lifestyles, and values. Some patients should have goals of 7%, 8%, or 9%.
If you have diabetes, talk with your healthcare provider or team. They want to work with you to tailor a treatment plan for your blood sugar and A1C goals that will provide the safest and best care for you.
Talk with your healthcare team about the “7-8-9” options for A1C goals.
