Measuring Your Pain
A pain scale helps you rate pain intensity. This can help you identify triggers and communicate with your healthcare provider. In the scale below, 0 means no pain, and 10 is the worst pain possible. (Scales may go up to 5 or 10.) Rate the pain every few hours, or as directed. You will feel some pain even with medicines. Tell your healthcare provider if medicines don't reduce your pain. They may not be the answer. Be sure to mention if the pain suddenly increases or changes.
